Jose Offerman, after being hit by a pitch in an Independent League game Tuesday night, charged the mound, with his bat, and proceeded to express his displeasure to pitcher Matt Beech and catcher John Nathans. Reports say that Beech has a broken right middle finger, and Nathans later complained of nausea after being hit in the head during the melee.
Bridgeport Bluefish CEO Mary-Jane Foster stated that she contacted the league office and will be requesting Offerman be banned from the Atlantic League for life.
Offerman batted .273 during his 15 seasons in the majors. He last played in the majors in 2005 with Philadelphia and the New York Mets. He was an All-Star in 1995 with the Dodgers and 1999 with Boston.
So much for a comeback.
